Union College, a highly-selective undergraduate liberal arts and engineering college, invites applications for the Tenure-Track Mary H. '80 and Richard K. '80 Templeton Assistant Professor of Computer Science, beginning September 2024. This endowed position is part of a broader initiative to further strengthen and integrate computer science and engineering with the liberal arts at Union. The area of expertise is open. About the Position. At Union, institutional expectations and support are balanced between teaching and research; the ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching, supervising undergraduate research, sustaining an independent research program, and providing service to the department and the college. This tenure track position involves teaching the equivalent of two courses in each of three trimesters, advising 2-3 senior projects each year, and serving as an academic advisor. We welcome applicants from all areas of expertise, including those that can further strengthen connections between computer science and the liberal arts.
Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a Ph.D. in computer science or a related area; applicants close to finishing the Ph.D. will be considered. We are open to an accelerated tenure process for candidates with significant experience. We welcome applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to inclusion of groups that are underrepresented in computer science through teaching, research, and/or service.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience. This endowed position also benefits from a supplemental annual allowance to support research and travel. About our Department. Our department offers a B.S. in computer science, supports an ABET accredited B.S. in computer engineering with the Electrical, Computer, and Biomedical Engineering Department, and the computational track of the Neuroscience major. We also participate in several computational minors including digital media, music technology, digital studies, and data analytics. Current faculty research areas include robotics, HCI, NLP, databases, computational complexity, and software design.
