Fire Safety Inspector

Pay Status and Classification: Part-time, non-exempt. This is a 12-month position. The pay range for this position is $18.70 - $19.00/hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. 
Work Days: 2-3 days per week; flexible.
Shift Start/End Time: Flexible, Monday - Friday based on the individual's need. Residential inspections are conducted during normal business hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.).
Hours Per Week: 16 
Weeks Per Year: 52

Supervisor: Director of Environmental Health & Safety 

Position Purpose: Performs monthly inspections for fire and life safety devices located at College-owned properties.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Fire Extinguisher Inspections: Inspects fire extinguishers following National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 10 standards. Conducts minor repairs for extinguisher brackets and cases.
  2. AED Inspections: Inspects Automatic Defibrillator Devices (AEDs) following American Heart Association recommendations. Maintain batteries and supplies. 
  3. Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections: Tests plug-in carbon monoxide detectors that are not connected to the Campus Safety notification system.
  4. Reporting: Maintains inspection spreadsheet and submits work orders to Facilities Services for major repairs. Participates in weekly Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) departmental meetings.


  1. High School Diploma and a combination of relevant training, certifications and\or work experience. 
  2. Valid U.S. Driver's License. 
  3. Must be safety-conscious and be able to professionally communicate with a diverse group of campus community members.
  4. Ability to ascend and descend stairs frequently. 
  5. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. The job requires extensive walking. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), state and local fire and building codes. 
  2. Fire safety training and experience.
