We invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in physics in any field, pending final administrative approval. The Department particularly encourages applications from theorists and from those in computational physics.

A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required. We encourage applications from interdisciplinary scientists and those who could make connections with colleagues using the College’s shared instrumentation resources (including AFM, SEM, micro-Raman and micro-FTIR instruments) or the department’s ion-beam facility. Applicants should have strong research credentials, evidence of teaching or mentoring a diverse student body, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education including research with undergraduate students. The suitable candidate is expected to teach introductory physics classes and labs to engineering and life science majors as well as upper level classes for the major as listed on our curriculum. 

Union is a highly selective, small (2200 students) liberal arts college with an engineering program, located in the Capital District of New York State, a region heavily engaged in science and R&D. The Department of Physics and Astronomy ( includes eleven full-time faculty in a variety of fields including astrophysics, atomic physics, computational physics, environmental physics, geophysics, nuclear physics, materials science, and art restoration research.
