Schedule: 5-8 Hrs/Wk but able to schedule work hours between 10am to 10pm Mon - Thurs, 10-4 on Friday and 4 - 10 on Sunday

Schaffer Library seeks motivated student employees to provide peer-to-peer research assistance as part of Research Services. 

Fellows are available through individual appointments and walk up inquiries to work one-on-one with students on every aspect of the research process, including but not limited to:

  • Choose a topic, narrow down a broad topic, and write a research question

  • Find sources by navigating Schaffer Library materials as well as those outside of Union

  • Evaluate information sources for credibility and use

  • Assist with constructing citations

Fellows also monitor research questions submitted online and make librarian referrals when appropriate.

Additionally, students will complete projects of interest to expand the library’s research resources. Possible examples could include:

  • Create and lead a workshop on research methods or resources (e.g., Refworks or Resource Credibility)

  • Create materials to promote the Library Research Fellows program and help to develop the Library Research Fellows space and services 

  • Produce tutorials for research tools and resources using a variety of digital methods (e.g., podcasts, augmented reality experiences, LibGuides, videos, etc.)

  • Develop instructional materials or other library events (e.g., scavenger hunts, breakout EDU sessions, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications: Students who are reflective about their own research and have experience conducting research in a variety of disciplines, are familiar with searching strategies and library resources, enjoy working with their peers, and have an interest in teaching and research. Strong candidates will have: exceptional customer service skills working with a diverse group of individuals along with excellent verbal and written communication skills, tact and discretion in communication, and a demonstrated high level of initiative and problem solving skills.
