Fire Safety Inspector

Pay Status and Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt

Supervisor: Director of Environmental Health & Safety

Position Purpose: Perform monthly inspections for fire and life safety devices located at College-owned properties.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Fire Extinguisher Inspections: Inspect fire extinguishers following National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 10 standards. Make minor repairs for extinguisher brackets and cases.
  2. AED Inspections: Inspect Automatic Defibrillator Devices (AEDs), following American Heart Association recommendations. Maintain batteries and supplies.
  3. Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections: Test plug-in carbon monoxide detectors that are not connected to the Campus Safety notification system.
  4. Reporting: Maintain inspection spreadsheet and submit  work orders to Facilities Services for major repairs. Participate in weekly Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) departmental meetings.

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma and a combination of relevant training, certifications and\or work experience. 
  2. Valid U.S. Driver's License. 
  3. Must be safety-conscious and be able to professionally communicate with a diverse group of campus community members.
  4. The ability to ascend and descend stairs frequently. 
  5. The ability to do extensive walking
  6. The ability to foster and enhance a thriving, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community, while promoting a sense of belonging among students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.

Compensation

The rate for this position is $18.90 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
