Program Coordinator of Community Engagement and Outreach
Pay status and classification: Non-exempt, Regular full-time
Supervisor: Director of Community Engagement and Outreach
Position Purpose: Supports the Department of Community Engagement/Outreach and STEP with the planning and coordination of department activities and programs. Provides administrative assistance for department operations. Maintains a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity.
This position is funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Education and is contingent upon grant funding. The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is a New York State grant-funded program that was designed to prepare historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students to enter college and increase participation in math, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions. Union College has been awarded the STEP grant since 1994 to partner with local schools and provide high-quality STEM instruction to students enrolled in the program. All STEP services and resources are offered at no cost to participants.
Essential Responsibilities and duties:
- Administration: Assists with administrative tasks, as well as set up for meetings and events, greeting visitors, and other office tasks and activities. Oversees the database for both Community Outreach, and STEP. Helps create intentional branding and marketing to promote the office and its resources.
- Engagement: Supports the implementation and evaluation of program initiatives, including Community Outreach and STEP experiences. Engages with program grade 7-12 students and undergraduate leaders to enhance recruitment and participation.
- Communication: Communicates with external partners, campus stakeholders, along with STEP students and families about program opportunities and updates. Maintains the department's online presence, including social media accounts and the website pages.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree is required, and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Valid New York State driver’s license to drive campus vehicles to events and programs.
- This position will require non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.
- Highly proficient in using a range of business office software applications.
- Able to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the College to achieve shared goals and objectives.
- Able to exercise exceptional judgment, ensures strict confidentiality, and demonstrates outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.
The expected rate for this position is $19.50-$20.00 per hour. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
