The Mechanical Engineering Department at Union College of Schenectady, NY invites applications for a three-year lecturer position starting September, 2023. The position is for a period of three years, with the possibility of renewal. Lecturers can go up for promotion to senior lecturer after six years at the College. We are looking for a candidate who can teach a wide range of undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in at least one of the following areas: solid mechanics (e.g., courses in statics, dynamics, and strength of materials), thermal fluid sciences (e.g., courses in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics) and controls (e.g., courses in system dynamics, control theory, and mechatronics). An ability to teach courses in manufacturing (e.g., courses in engineering graphics) and the College’s introductory engineering course (ESC 100, required of all first-year engineering students) is also required. In addition to teaching the lecturer will have co-curricular responsibilities to include (1) serving as the primary resource for our first- and second-year students and (2) being responsible for mentoring ME students and helping them better understand the commitment needed to succeed in an engineering curriculum.
A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is required, but applicants close to finishing their Ph.D. will also be considered. We strongly encourage applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. Increasing diversity on campus is a key objective of this hire and a top priority for Union, one that is integral to our mission of preparing students for a globally interconnected world.
