The Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at Union College invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall 2023. A Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field is required. Candidates expecting to complete their doctoral thesis before September of 2023 are also welcome to apply. We welcome applications from candidates in all areas of electrical and/or computer engineering and candidates from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to undergraduate education and research interests that can involve undergraduate students.
Union College (www.union.edu) is a small and highly selective undergraduate institution that emphasizes close collaborations between faculty and students and has campus-wide initiatives promoting the creative integration of science and engineering with the humanities and social sciences. Union College is located in Schenectady, NY, a culturally rich and economically diverse city in New York State's Capital Region within three hours from New York City, Boston, and Montreal. In 1845, Union College became the first liberal arts institution in the nation to offer a degree in engineering. We currently offer ABET-accredited degree programs in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Our programs emphasize close student-faculty interaction with opportunities to study abroad, perform hands-on undergraduate research, and minor in disciplines ranging from theater and dance to history and economics. In February 2020, the College announced a $51 million gift from Mary H. ‘80 and Richard K. Templeton ‘80 to support the creation of the Templeton Institute (TI) to strengthen and integrate engineering and computer science within the liberal arts at Union. The mission of the TI is to enable connections, experimentation, innovation, and discovery through integrative coursework, projects, and research.
