Pay status and classification: Salaried, regular full-time. 

Position Purpose: Under the direction of the Director of Digital Strategy, the Social Media Specialist will be responsible for content coordination and community management. They will assist with optimizing the various Union online and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok) to increase brand awareness and to inform and engage key audiences including potential and current students, parents, academic peers, alumni, friends and more. The individual will work with and provide guidance on best social media practices.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Daily social media posting, using best practices and posting times. Checking social and digital accounts daily for alerts and mentions, responding accordingly. Connecting followers with appropriate college staff with courteous, informed, professional engagement.
  2. Alongside the Director of Digital Strategy, coordinate the monthly, weekly, and daily social media content calendars to provide an appropriate mix of content.
  3. Work with communications and creative teams to produce and edit content to ensure social channels are updated with brand-appropriate posts. Content creation includes writing with some skill and knowledge of photo and video content production.
  4. Provide new content ideas - think outside the box with storytelling and use innovative ways to tell the Union story. 
  5. Work with individuals across campus to promote their content and stay informed of activities and programming at Union, especially as it relates to recruitment, retention and alumni engagement. Provide training on social media best practices to other individuals as requested.
  6. Create and update content for Union.edu as needed.
  7. Assist with content creation and production of The Chronicle, Union’s weekly employee e-newsletter.

Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.
  2. 2-4 years of professional social media experience and an understanding of posting and community engagement best practices.
  3. Knowledge of social media scheduling and analytics software, such as Sprout Social, Google Analytics, etc.
  4. Competency with Adobe Photoshop and the ability to complete some graphic design work, aligned with Union branding and standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Familiarity with e-mail marketing creation and strategies.
  2. Previous experience executing paid digital ad campaigns (Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads, etc.) and retargeting for social media advertising.
