Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the CHRO will lead a highly effective and responsive Human Resources team focused on cultivating high morale and employee effectiveness while developing and implementing a talent management strategy for the College. The CHRO and members of the HR team will work collaboratively with other leaders across the College to design strategic and innovative programs, policies, and practices that reflect the institution’s commitment to its people. The CHRO will also act as a key advisor to senior leaders regarding organizational and management issues.
The CHRO will lead a team of four; be responsible for ensuring that the human resources function is aligned with the mission of the institution; ensure the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce; develop, document, and implement best practice human resource policies and procedures; maintain effective communication with staff, faculty, and all members of the Union College community; oversee the implementation of relevant technologies; and ensure compliance with COBRA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, immigration laws, and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing employment.
The CHRO will be responsible for all Human Resources operations including recruitment, employment services, employee relations, training and development, benefits management, salary administration and job classification, performance appraisals, health/wellness, conflict resolution, workers compensation, leave administration, records management, and personnel policy development and interpretation.
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required, ideally in a related field; an advanced degree is highly preferred. SPHR/PHR and/or SHRM certification highly preferred. Progressively responsible experience leading relevant functions within a Human Resource department in an institution of higher education or a comparable setting is also preferable. Candidates not having direct experience with higher education must demonstrate a deep passion and understanding for the mission of Union College, as well as an appreciation for the shared governance model of decision-making used in higher education.
