Open311 is an open government initiative that provides a dedicated service to handle non-emergencies for a city. An example of some non-emergency services are addressing road issues, snow removal, broken parking meters etc. It is designed to allow the residents of a city access to government services and local information quickly and efficiently via mobile devices. For example, the Philadelphia city government receives around 50,000 requests a month as citizens direct attention to re-mediate issues they see as important. The intern would work with local professionals to help develop the system for the city of Schenectady. The tasks include the development of mobile applications and cloud-hosted services.
Qualifications: Experience with Linux, Python, java, or Android or IOS application development will be helpful. Anyone with some programming background and an interest in learning something new is encouraged to apply.
Preference will be given to those with availability during December. Hours are very flexible and the project is anticipated to run through the winter and spring terms. It is anticipated that the intern will work roughly 10 hrs/wk for 25 weeks at a rate of $10.00/hr. This is a great opportunity to help make our community a better place to live.
