Working under direction of the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician will safely perform journeyman level quality work involved with the installation, maintenance, and repair of the college’s electrical systems and equipment.
The position requires minimum of a high school diploma with either a two year AOS degree in Electrical Construction & Maintenance, a recognized five year apprenticeship, vocational education in electrical construction, and/or military training in the electrical trades. A minimum of five to seven years’ experience is preferred, with an equivalent combination of education and experience also acceptable. The candidate must have a valid New York State driver’s license and safe driving record. Applicants with an electrical license within the city of Albany, Schenectady, or Troy is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of electrical theory and the fundamentals of ohm’s law, practical understanding and application of the National Electrical Code, NFPA, and OSHA standards on electrical and work safety procedures is a must. The position also requires an understanding of motor controllers, WYE and Delta motor connections, reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and one-line diagrams. The successful candidate will also possess effective decisional, negotiating, team building, and leader/mentoring skills, excellent verbal, written, presentational, and listening abilities, plus experience working within a diverse community.
