The Mechanical Engineering Department at Union College of Schenectady, NY invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position starting September 1, 2019 focused in the areas of manufacturing, design and design for manufacturability, and/or material science. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is required, but applicants close to finishing the Ph.D. will also be considered. We strongly encourage applications from members of groups traditionally underrepresented in the field. The successful candidate would teach and develop content for a range of undergraduate courses and laboratories in their subfield as well as teach other common introductory engineering science courses. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and conducting high quality, peer reviewed and published research are requirements for success in the position. Union College has a strong record in undergraduate research, and candidates will be expected to pursue an active program of scholarly research involving undergraduate students. Additionally, Union strongly values its liberal arts tradition and candidates who are willing and able to teach more broadly, in appropriate interdisciplinary programs and/or to the broader campus community, will be given preference.
